24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
Introduction
Introduction
Moses had just been given his commission. He had been changed forever by being in the presence of God. He was going down to Egypt to take over, but there was trouble on the way. He got in trouble with God, because he had neglected things at home.
1. Moses’ Neglect
1. Moses’ Neglect
Somehow down in the desert Moses had forgotten the commandment of God that made the Hebrews unique among all nations. This was not a little thing.
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
There they are, going down to Egypt. And now watch how neglectful a man can get. In the inn, God met him down here in the inn, and would have slayed him, and Zipporah went and took a sharp rock and circumcised her two children with a sharp rock, and throwed the foreskin before Moses, and said, “You’re a bloody husband to me,” only saved Moses life.
What was Moses doing? Moses got in such a hustle and bustle of the day, till he was in such a place to go down there, he forgot the seal of circumcision.
And that’s where we are doing today. That’s where the holiness churches are failing. We’ve got so much time, the Lord has give us a lot of money, we’re building great big churches, and big spires, and putting plush seats, and pipe organs, until we forgot the Seal of God, which is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. True! God, send us a Zipporah.
That’s right. Circumcision! Every male in Egypt, of Israel, that wasn’t circumcised, was cut off. And circumcision was the seal of the promise. And circumcision of the Old Testament, is the baptism of the Holy Ghost of the New. And every man outside the baptism of the Holy Ghost will be cut off. 53-0326 — Israel And The Church #2
Now our heart is circumcised by the Holy Ghost. (See Deut 30:6 Rom 2:29)
God was looking to kill His prophet, because he had failed to provide an atmosphere for his children to receive the Holy Ghost.
He didn’t give his children the same chance he had.
Now, God gave this commandment, “And every male must be circumcised.” And God, when He called Moses to go down there and deliver the children of Israel, Moses hadn’t performed on his son’s, the very delivering sign.
Would be like me saying, “All you church now, every one of you come in and been baptized here with water, and we put you on the church membership. We’re all going to Glory together.” Why, brother, that’s not Scripture.
Unless you are borned again, circumcised of the Holy Spirit…You’ve got to be. I don’t care how good you are, what church you belong to, how good your parents was, except you as a individual has been borned again by the Holy Ghost, you’ll never go in the Rapture.
You can’t go. That’s the very delivering sign, the circumcision; and the circumcision is by the Holy Spirit.
The questioner asked this: “Does this Scripture mean that God aimed to kill Moses or his son? And why?” God was after Moses. And Zipporah was the only one that saved him there. For Zipporah got a sharp rock, and went, and cut the foreskin off of her baby, and threw it before Moses and said, “Thou art a bloody husband to me.” Is that right?
And God would’ve took Moses’ life, but perhaps an Angel was standing there, said, “Zipporah! Catch it quickly!”
And Zipporah went and circumcised the baby. Said, “Moses, you’re so concerned about everything else and about your journey, that your own boy hasn’t been circumcised.”
(Everyone wants to do something for God at church, but what about your home life?)
(Preacher and woman doing missionary work)
Now, what had happened to that woman? She had kept messing around without receiving the Holy Ghost, just like that woman over yonder today that called me and wanted to marry that man, and leave her own husband, and marry the man.
She had come in such a place, maybe one time being in contact with God, but had been lusting after the things of the world. And I asked her; I said, “Have you received the Holy Ghost?”
She said, “Not yet, but I’m seeking It.” I said, “You get the Holy Ghost first, and He’ll tell you what husband to have.” That’s right. 54-0103E — Questions And Answers #2
Why did Moses neglect to do this? He was out of fellowship.
Moses was back there waiting, and now…And there he was. What did he do? He went to work for his father-in-law, Jethro, and he was herding his sheep out in the desert place. There’s a perfect picture here before us tonight of a believer out of fellowship with God.
There he was, no fellowship, not one thing in that forty years was spoke that God did for him, or any way, any supernatural. He was out of fellowship.
And when the Church gets out of fellowship with God, miracles cease, signs and wonders cease, revivals cease; God just moves right out when you get out of fellowship.
The thing to do, is keep the love of God in your heart. Keep fellowship with Him, and He will add these other things, just as we mature. 55-0122 — This Great Servant, Moses
2. Zipporah’s Temper Saving a Prophet
2. Zipporah’s Temper Saving a Prophet
Moses was taking his own son down, for to deliver the children of Israel, uncircumcised. And Zipporah took a sharp stone, cut the foreskin off her child, and throwed it before him, said, “Thou art a bloody husband to me.”
You know, did you ever study that right close? Moses had a temper, you know, that finally kept him out of the promised land, his temper. And God had set him back out there and give him a little high-tempered wife, too. I bet they had some trouble on the backside of that desert, don’t you?
God knows how to tame you down. So, He fixed him back out there with a little woman, showed. She cut that foreskin off and throwed it before him, said, “You’re a bloody husband.” My! He knowed how to fix him up, take that temper out of him. All right. 53-0328 — Israel And The Church #4
God was doing something for Moses on the backside of the desert.
And he married an Ethiopian girl. And so she had a lot of temper. And Moses had a lot of temper. That was his trouble. And I just imagine things wasn’t so peaceful back there on the back of the desert, at times. But God gave it to him.
Now, if you think you married a woman has a little temper, maybe God’s trying to tame you down a little (You see?), so, and vice versa. 55-0122 — This Great Servant, Moses
You know, Moses had a temper; and God give him the wife by name of Zipporah, she had one, too. So I imagine everything wasn’t so pleasing back on the backside of the desert for a while, when both of their tempers got out of control at the same time.
I suppose his intellectual conception of how psychology ought to control a person didn’t do much good, because, when he was on his road down to Egypt, I see Zipporah still had a temper. 61-1119 — Perfect Strength By Perfect Weakness
I always wondered about folks that fought all the time. Why do that? But there is something worse, it’s when you don’t care.
Notice, he failed, miserably failed, and run into the desert for another forty years while God had him back on the backside of the desert, where he married this Ethiopian woman: Zipporah. And she was high tempered. Moses was too, so I guess there was some little trouble on the backside of the desert once in a while.
Don’t turn your wife down ’cause she’s got a little temper. Maybe that’s your cross. God might’ve give it to kinda keep you lined up: same thing with you women to your husbands. Stick together: promised God you would, so stay with it.
Notice, I’m a person don’t believe in marriage and divorce. You know that, so…Look, my brother. If you went at that more prayerfully, there’d be less of it. 56-0615 — An Exodus
Zipporah’s temper saved Moses’ life.
When marriage goes bad we tend to blame all of our problems on our spouse. “If it wasn’t for you I’d have went to school and got a real job”.
What if the person God gave us literally saved our life, by being all the things we dislike about them?
God couldn’t kill Sarah, because of Abraham. Her marriage saved her life.
What? That’s grace. See? Right there, God would have slew her right there, but He couldn’t. Oh! See our stupidity? He’d kill every one of us, but He can’t. To kill Sarah, He had to take Abraham, ’cause Sarah was a part of Abraham.
They were one, in union. And to take the Church and destroy It, He can’t do it, because It’s part of Himself, Christ; part of Himself, the Word being made flesh. 62-0318 — The Spoken Word Is The Original Seed
Lets go back. What caused the trouble at home for Moses and Zipporah? Neglect. How was it resolved? By doing what had been neglected.
You say, “I have a holy thirst. But I’m not guilty, Brother Branham, of just go and joining church, and things like this.” But, see, to neglect a thirst! If you neglect to satisfy a thirst of water or food, you will die. And if you neglect that thirst in you, for God, you will spiritually die.
You call for revivals, you wait for your church to have a revival. Well, that ain’t the revival for you. The revival ought to begin right in you, when you begin to thirst for God. There might not be another member, of the church, wanting that revival. If it breaks out in you, it will break out other places. But, see, you neglect that thirst.
You neglect to milk the cow, when the udder is full of milk; and if you let that cow stay like that, she’ll go dry. That’s exactly right. If you neglect to take a drink of water, say, “I just ain’t going to drink anymore,” you’ll die. You neglect to eat food, you’ll die.
So if you neglect to give the Holy Spirit the Word of God, you’ll die. 65-0919 — Thirst

Moses knew to circumcise his sons, he just neglected to do it.
Most husbands and wives know what it would take for their marriage to be right, they just neglect it.
The early church knew what to do, but they lost their first love.
Zipporah did what needed to be done, even though it wasn’t her job.
Marriages last because someone decided they would. Your spouse wants to lay out of church? Go anyway. They won’t pray and read the Bible? Do it anyway.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
People who see marriage as a 50/50 split are in a dangerous place, because they will always feel the other person isn’t doing their part.

Jesus did not neglect His wife, but He wooed her to Him. He did what needed to be done.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
And when we were sinners, alienated, without God; in the world, in that muck of mud, as I talked about this morning, God come to us! God sought you, you never sought God. “No man can come to Me except the Father draws him first.” And God came down in that muck, what you were, and sought you out and brought you out!
That ought to create a Perfect Love. Look what you was, and look what you are. What did that? Somebody that loves you! Can’t you have faith in what He’s promised you, then? Real genuine love will create a confidence in His Word. 63-0825E — Perfect Faith
Conclusion.
Conclusion.

“If He sends me to hell I’ll still love Him.”
And I’ve tried with all my heart, dear Jesus, to live for You, to do the thing, no matter what this cross is, or how scornful it seems to be. I love You, dear Jesus, You’ve broken my heart over and over, but I love You for it. 51-0722A — Life Story
